Apizaco, Mexico

I woke up very early last Monday, and tried to get dressed and collect my stuff as quietly as posible in order to not wake up my roommates but as I was collecting my suitcases I accidentally woke up Elder Tanner, and, on my way out the door, he gave me a sentimental goodbye. I eventually found myself on a very fancy bus to Puebla. I watched the landscape slowly fade from busy city to peaceful forests. Or at least, that's what I would've seen had I not promptly taken a nap. Thankfully, I did wake up in time to witness a suprisingly green forest within mountainous terrain. The first people we met when we got of the bus in Puebla were the mission President and his assistants. I didn't know that the missionaries there were just the assistants to the president, and when I first saw them I thought one of them might be my companion. We then went to the mission office to actually meet our companions. I had comvinced myself that I would get a latino companion, but I didn't. Elder Haymore, from Arizona, is my companion, and he has been out for a year and a half. I also met the other elders in my district, and we promptly left with them to go to our area. All of us and our luggage barely, and I mean baaarely and very uncomfotably, fit in the taxi we took to the bus station. Elder Durst was on his companion's lap while being squeesed from the side by a suitcase which was on top of the rest of us.

Now I'm in Apizaco, learning, learning, learning; cultue, language, and how to be a missionary. I am very grateful for my situation. I'm in an an area with plenty of work to do, and I have a trainer who is experienced, kind, and speaks English. I have jumped right into the action with teaching lessons. I can't communicate everything I want to, but I can share a simple testimony and explain basic concepts. Elder Haymore gives me plenty of opportunities to talk.

It's a lot of fun just to be in a new place, and all the members are very nice. I now know what real tacos and burritos taste like, and I love them.

Yesterday I technically had my first baptism. 11 year old Antony made his first covenants, and will shortly be confirmed. He is a really good kid.

I wish I could tell ya'll in detail about all the people we're teaching, but I've run out of time, so I'll try to get it next week. Thanks for reading!
